ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Thank you for your interest in applying to the LACHSA Cinematic Arts Department! Please review the following requirements for applying to our department.

All auditions, callbacks and/or portfolio reviews will be done in person unless otherwise noted and are subject to change for health and/or safety guidelines.

OVERVIEW | APPLICATION PROCESS
STEP ONE
Fully complete and submit the LACHSA online application by January 17, 2025.
STEP TWO
Prepare and submit your portfolio by January 17, 2025. See "Portfolio" checklist outlined below.
STEP THREE
If all general requirements are met, participate in interview and possible callback with panel.
Please allow ample time to submit your online application and upload any required materials. Late or incomplete online applications will not be considered. The time and scheduling of auditions and callbacks is determined by the department and requests for specific audition times or dates cannot be accommodated. All auditions and/or callbacks will be held in person unless otherwise noted.
PLEASE NOTE - Interviews and callbacks are granted only if all general requirements for attending LACHSA have been met.
PORTFOLIO | CHECKLIST
1. Complete film submission form. (A link will be emailed to applicants after November 1, 2024.)
2. Upload short film (2-3 minutes in duration).

Applicant’s short film should explore themes relating to the human experience.
​

Common themes include: Love, Revenge, Redemption, Sacrifice, Transformation, Innocence (or loss of).
​

Applicant’s short film should display applicant’s narrative storytelling ability and understanding of cinematic techniques, elements, and fundamental skills.
​

Films should be written, directed, shot, edited, or a combination of all four by the applicant.
​

Applicant's film may be shot on a smartphone or similar device and edited on a downloadable editing app.

Please, DO NOT submit group projects.​
Once the completed application and portfolio are submitted, they will be processed by the department. Applicants will be notified and invited to interview with Cinematic Arts faculty, current students and alumni on February 1, 2025. Applicants should make themselves available on February 2, 2025 in case they are called back for a second interview.
The Cinematic Arts Department at LACHSA will accept primarily incoming 9th graders for the 2025-2026 school year. If accepted, 10th graders will begin their studies at the second-year level of study.
