After countless Northeastern winters, Mr. Brown is quickly warming to the much sunnier disposition of Southern California. Mr. Brown was born and raised in Syracuse, NY. He later attended Cornell University where he earned a B.A. in Film and Visual Studies. Mr. Brown’s academic pursuits then led him to Oklahoma State University and an M.A. in English. After three years of teaching freshman writing, Mr. Brown returned to New York and began a career in public education. Upon return, he completed his M.S.T. in Adolescent Education from Le Moyne College in 2016. Since 2016, Mr. Brown has taught high school English in Salt Lake City, Utah; moved to California, tutored students in AP and SAT courses; and completed advanced coursework for his California teaching certificate.
In the classroom, Mr. Brown champions the virtues of close reading and purposeful writing; two fundamental skills for all students to master in high school and beyond. At LACHSA, Mr. Brown welcomes the challenge of making literature meaningful and engaging for his students through connections across the arts.
In his spare time, Mr. Brown enjoys watching as many films as possible, exploring greater L.A. architectural landmarks, and cheering for Syracuse Orange basketball from the other side of the country. He currently resides in Orange County with his wife and terrier Maxwell.
