LUCA ALEMANNO

Luca Alemanno is an upright/electric bassist with 18 years of international touring experience and has appeared on over 100 recordings and performed in 58 different countries around the world. Currently based in Los Angeles, California (originally from Lecce, Italy), Alemanno is considered by critics “among the finest young modern jazz musicians that Italy has to offer.” Touring, recording, and performing at festivals and clubs in Europe, Asia and North and South America, Alemanno has appeared with international jazz artists such as Herbie Hancock, Arturo Sandoval, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jane Monheit, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Gerald Clayton, Eric Reed, Dave Koz, Miguel Zenón, Mark Turner, Walter Smith III, Tierney Sutton, Greg Osby, Bob Mintzer, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spalding, Eric Reed, Stanley Jordan, Jonathan Kreisberg, Logan Richardson, Jerry Bergonzi, Steve Leheman, Justin Brown, and many others…


An alumnus of the world-renowned Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance (2018), Alemanno studied and performed with jazz legends including Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Chris Potter, Danilo Perez, Terri Lyne Carrington, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Jimmy Heath, Billy Hart, Billy Childs and many more. Previously, Alemanno also earned a master's in Jazz Electric Bass at the G. Martucci Conservatory of Music (Salerno) and a master's in Classical Double Bass at the T. Schipa Conservatory of Music (Lecce).


Luca Alemanno is an adjunct professor at SDSU and part of the Jazz Faculty at LACHSA (Los Angeles County High School for the Arts).


In 2017, Alemanno won first place in the jazz division of the International Society of Bassists Performance Competition held in Ithaca, New York. Additionally, he won first prize at the 2009 European Bass Day.


Alemanno’s debut album I Can See Home From Here was released on October 9, 2019 (Workin’ Label) and features alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón, trombonist Jon Hatamiya, vibraphonist Simon Moullier, pianist Isaac Wilson, and drummer Jongkuk “JK” Kim. Alemanno’s solo bass performance of “Stardust” reached Japan’s Top 100 Jazz Charts on iTunes in 2019. The album was also included among the top 100 best jazz albums of 2019 in Musica Jazz, the leading jazz publication in Italy.
