NATASHA DIAMOND-WALKER

NATASHA M. DIAMOND-WALKER is a former Principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company in New York City. Having performed lead roles in Martha Graham’s most classical ballets, she holds a special place in the history of dance for being the first African American woman to perform Martha Graham’s iconic solo Lamentation (from 1930), as a member of the company. While at MGDC Natasha has influenced and originated roles in the ballets of Nacho Duato, Kyle Abraham, Sonya Tayeh, Annie-B. Parson, Pam Tanowitz, Maxine Doyle, and Bobbi Jene Smith, to name a few. Alongside her solo performing career, Natasha has developed into both an impactful artist-educator and published author, who focuses on celebrating Classical Modern dance legacies. Miss Diamond-Walker, through her late mentor Don Martin, has become an ambassador of the Lester Horton legacy, in conjunction with the Library of Congress in DC, and serves as a coveted teaching artist and regissuer for the works and technique of both Lester Horton and Martha Graham. Natasha is now serving as Senior Program Specialist- Dance Department Chair, for the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in southern California.
