Ray Alcalá has had the unique opportunity to work in every grade level from K-12. Mr. Alcalá has been an educator for 21 years. His teaching career began with educating children enrolled in a math and science magnet program in LAUSD. In pursuit of an athletic training career he ventured into a private catholic high school, where he began instructing students in various science classes and worked as the Head Athletic Trainer, caring for the high school’s athletes.
He has spent the last 14 years at LACHSA developing the Physical Education program. Mr. Alcalá attended Cal Poly Pomona where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training. While there he also completed his National Certification in Athletic Training. He continued his education and attended Cal State Los Angeles, where he earned his Master of Arts degree in Kinesiology with an option in advanced study for physical education and a Single Subject Credential. After spending many years in the classroom, Mr. Alcalá has come to believe that as a teacher, he has the opportunity to assist young individuals to develop and mature into responsible and productive. Being a teacher has allowed him the ability to share what he has learned and experienced throughout his life. Providing students with the tools and skills to be able to be successful within their academic future. He has always held a strong belief in developing student self-discipline, which he believes allows an individual to overcome any obstacle or hardship they may face.
Mr. Alcalá currently resides in Whittier, CA with his wife of 23 years. He has just recently experienced another one of life milestones, his oldest son just graduated from Willamette University (Salem, OR) and his youngest graduated high school, who will be attending Whittier College in the fall of 2019. Some of his interests are a variety of sports, exploring technology, and traveling. Currently, he is playing club soccer in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
