ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS - COMMERCIAL MUSIC
Thank you for your interest in applying to the LACHSA Music Department! Please review the following requirements for applying to our department.
The Commercial Music Program at LACHSA is designed to support the artistic and career development of young creatives through the lens of the 21st century artist. With the help of leading professionals, students will gain experience and insight into the creative, technical, and business aspects of commercial music. Our goal is to prepare students to enter their professional careers as contemporary singer-songwriters, producers and composers with skill and confidence.

All auditions, callbacks and/or portfolio reviews will be done in person unless otherwise noted and are subject to change for health and/or safety guidelines.

OVERVIEW | APPLICATION PROCESS
STEP ONE
Start preparing your audition pieces of music.
Fully complete and submit the LACHSA online application by Friday, January 17, 2025.
STEP TWO
Prepare your recordings and/or video of you performing your pieces of music following the guidelines below. Submit your recordings by Friday, January 17, 2025.
STEP THREE
A limited number of applicants will be invited to a live callback audition at LACHSA on February 22, 2025. If granted a callback, see requirements below.
Please allow ample time to submit your online application and upload any required materials. Late or incomplete online applications will not be considered. The time and scheduling of auditions and callbacks is determined by the department and requests for specific audition times or dates cannot be accommodated. All auditions and/or callbacks will be held in person unless otherwise noted.
PLEASE NOTE - Auditions and callbacks are granted only if all general requirements for attending LACHSA have been met.
PRE-SCREEN RECORDING | COMMERCIAL MUSIC
COMPOSER

Two (2) contrasting compositions..

Selections must be original works.

- Each applicant MUST submit:

Two (2) written scores with corresponding recordings.​​

PRODUCER

Two (2) contrasting song selections.​

Song selections must be original works.

Each applicant MUST submit:

Two tracks in WAV/AIFF format. Include project files for each track as a .zip file on Dropbox or Google Drive with all corresponding files and samples included. Any plugins should be converted into audio​​​​

SINGER-SONGWRITER

Two (2) contrasting song selections.

Song selections must be original works.

Each applicant MUST submit:

One audio recording and one live video recording,
OR -
Two live video performances​​​

VIDEO DISCLAIMER: Applicants MAY NOT submit professional video recordings. Smart phone videos are preferred. Professional recordings will be disqualified - professional editing of any type is strictly prohibited and will disqualify your application.
CALLBACKS | COMMERCIAL MUSIC
After successfully submitting the LACHSA application and pre-screen audition video, a limited number of applicants will be invited to participate in a live callback audition. During the callbacks, applicants will be asked to:

Applicant must present original compositions that demonstrate mastery of music nomenclature and complete a music theory test.​

Producer:

Applicants must be prepared to present their DAW (digital audio workstation) sessions and talk about their creative process.​

Singer-songwriter:

Applicants must be prepared to perform their original material and talk about their lyrical and musical choices.​
