COURSE DESCRIPTION
Physical Education 1 A/B is based on the Physical Education Content Standards for California Schools and meets the requirements of the California Code of Regulations, Section 10060, as instruction is provided in all areas of physical education. Students demonstrate knowledge of the mechanics of body movements and competency in motor skills for at least one activity in each area of physical education (aquatics, gymnastics/tumbling, rhythms/dance, combatives/personal safety, and individual, dual, and team sports). Activities that meet the criteria for a given area are selected based on the needs and restrictions of the instructional setting. The course emphasizes physical fitness and the effects of physical activity on dynamic health as students prepare for the mandated state physical fitness assessment (FitnessGram).

Students demonstrate competency in motor skills for at least one activity in each area of physical education (aquatics, gymnastics/tumbling, rhythms/dance, combatives/personal safety, and individual, dual, and team sports). Activities meeting the criteria for a given area are selected based on the needs and restrictions of the instructional setting. The course emphasizes physical fitness and the effects of physical activity on dynamic health. Students are given the opportunity to improve fitness test scores for the state physical fitness assessment (FitnessGram). Students demonstrate knowledge of the psychological/sociological concepts, principles and strategies that apply to physical fitness.
