Standing Against Violence Towards the Asian American Pacific Islander Community

Updated: Apr 7, 2021

We are devastated by the recent rise in hate crimes and rhetoric aimed towards the Asian American Pacific Islander community in the US. The recent shooting in Atlanta is the latest of these painful atrocities that have shaken our nation at the expense of Asian Americans. LACHSA is unequivocally committed to speaking out against hatred. We stand strongly with you and encourage our entire community to support our students, family members and community partners of Asian descent during these disturbing events.

We encourage you to get involved with LACHSA's Social Justice Movement by contacting one of our many student or parent/guardian representatives, emailing administration at spevak_natalie@lacoe.edu, or by contributing to one of the organizations listed on this letter. Students have created social media spaces to be together and students are encouraged to contact their ASB student representatives for more information. LACHSA also has wellness professionals on standby for individual supports.

Here are just a few organizations you can support to advance equity in the Asian American community:

Stop AAPI Hate

Tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the US.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice

Advancing civil and human rights for Asian Americans through education, litigation, and public policy advocacy.

Hate is a Virus

Raises money to address the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans due to the pandemic.

As always, our counseling team is on standby if you or someone you know are experiencing difficulties during these troubling times. Please reach out any time for support. View the list of wellness counselors here.
