POSITION:

Choral Director

Evan is thrilled to be joining LACHSA’s faculty as Choral Director, leading the Concert Choir and teaching classes in vocal skills, vocal harmony, and music theory. A native of Pasadena, Evan’s musical life is firmly established in Los Angeles, as both a student and a teacher. He has led choir programs in several private schools in the Los Angeles area, such as New Roads School in Santa Monica and The Mirman School in Bel Air, as well as served as Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Children's Chorus Young Men's Ensemble. In addition to his choral and instrumental teaching experience, Evan is also an accomplished music director, facilitating theatre productions of Spring Awakening, 1776, High School Musical, Footloose, Into the Woods, and Shrek.

Shortly before arriving at LACHSA, Evan completed two simultaneous Master’s degrees, one in Music Education Research from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, and another in Choral Conducting from California State University: Los Angeles. While studying in Indiana, Evan sang tenor in numerous ensembles, such as NOTUS Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, Concentus Early Music Ensemble, Bloomington Bach Cantata Project, IU Conductor’s Chorus, All-Campus Choir, and two opera choruses of Falstaff and the H.M.S. Pinafore. Evan also holds a Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Rita Shane and Constance Haas.

Evan is an avid choral musician in the Los Angeles area, singing with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Contemporary Choral Collective of Los Angeles (C3LA), and the Donald Brinegar Singers. In addition to his choral experience, Evan also enjoys playing keyboard and bass guitar while singing background vocals for local Pasadena-based bands. When he is not making music, which is rare, Evan enjoys cooking and playing chess.
